Is Your Tap Water Safe To Drink?

Water from Your Kitchen Tap is used for drinking and cooking. To make it drinkable this water has been processed through a Treatment Plant and delivered through old pipe distribution systems, to your tap.

But ... Is It Safe to Drink?

Water is something you cannot live without and something that is connected with Your Health. You would expect a very high quality product to be provided- no compromise. Water in the style of Activated Structured Water which replicates the cellular water found in your body in the cells.

This however, is not what you get with water from Treatment or Purification plants where it undergoes filtering and chemical process is to standards that allow it to be drinkable with some refinements added to address its taste and smell.

Drinkable water implies water that is compliant with a minimum acceptable standard which itself only requires water to be considered safe to drink.

Although some variation in the quality of drinking water will occur because of the different sources of water used and different forms of treatment, drinking water that meets the Australian drinking water guidelines [the guidelines] is considered safe to drink.

Perhaps it's due to the fact that the Treatment Process applied in providing drinking water, introduces its own ingredients into the chemical cocktail that is offered to the public. These are classified as being ineffectual to consumers, because at very low concentrations certain contaminants and toxins are deemed to be tolerated by the human body.

The Australian National Health-Based Guidelines specify the maximum concentrations recommended, individually, for all toxic chemical compounds found in drinking water, using the following statement as a yardstick:

the concentration or measure of a water quality characteristic that, based on present knowledge, does not result in any significant risk to the health of the consumer over a lifetime of consumption.”

Although the list of toxins is comprehensive, there is no mention that it includes only a few of 600 identified harmful Disinfection By-Products [DBPs] that could find their way into drinking water supplies.

There is also no consideration given to how these DPBs my combined to produce a much greater harmful effect than each isolated DPB may produce, since the guidelines qualify each item independently with no consideration of any interaction between them, whether that is likely or not.

the potential interactions among the 600 identified DBPs in the complex mixture of drinking water to which we are exposed by various routes is not reflected in any of the toxicology studies of individual DBPs.

Occurrence, genotoxicity and carcinogenicity of regulated and emerging disinfection by-products in drinking water : a review and road map for research. Abstract: PMID: 17080649

The Australian Guidelines do recognise that when DBPs are ingested together, their combined effects on health may differ from their individual effects.

There is also reference to a grim association between some of these By-Products and various cancers:

“It is also possible that when these compounds (both known and unknown) are ingested together, their combined effects on health may be different from their individual effects.

A number of epidemiological studies have suggested an association between water chlorination byproducts and various cases
